We detect table-like regions (multiple spaces, pipes, or tabs) and output a single CSV. Best with text-based PDFs. Scanned PDFs are not supported.

How to Extract Tables from PDF to CSV

  1. Upload your PDF (max 10MB, max 20 pages).

  2. Click Extract Tables. ConvertFloor detects table regions.

  3. Table data is output as a single CSV file.

  4. Download the CSV for Excel or Google Sheets. Your file is not stored.

Example use cases for PDF table extraction

Finance teams copy monthly bank PDF statements into models; regulators publish rate tables only as PDF annexes; researchers harvest survey results trapped in two-column PDF grids. A structured CSV bridge lets you pivot, join, and chart in Excel without manual retyping. Our extractor looks for column alignment and delimiter-like gaps—ideal when the PDF was generated from spreadsheets or reporting tools rather than photographed paper.

If a report mixes narrative pages with a few tabular pages, split the PDF first so you upload only the sheet-heavy segment—smaller files process faster and reduce noise. When you need slide content instead of grids, use the PDF to PowerPoint converter; it targets a different content model than CSV.

When PDF-to-CSV shines—and when to choose another path

Choose CSV extraction when cells contain plain text or numbers with consistent separators. Pivot to OCR-first table workflows if the table is a photo inside the PDF—this tool assumes selectable text. If you only need unstructured paragraphs, PDF to Word preserves prose flow better than forcing it into columns.

Common extraction issues and fixes

Headers repeat mid-table. The engine may treat each header row as data. Delete duplicate header lines in Excel or use Power Query’s “Use first row as header” after import.

Currency and thousand separators collide. Normalize locale in Excel (Data → From Text/CSV) so commas and dots parse predictably.

Cells merged in the PDF. Merged regions often collapse into one wide column; split cells manually or re-export from the source system if available.

Wide tables wrap awkwardly. Narrow PDF layouts may break one logical row into two visual lines. Compare against the PDF and stitch rows with formulas if needed.

Tips for spreadsheet-ready output

Trim whitespace in Excel with TRIM(), then cast numbers with VALUE() where necessary. Document your delimiter choice if you re-import into SQL—our output is comma-separated by default. For recurring reports, save a cleaning macro or Power Query script so next month’s PDF becomes a one-click refresh. Finally, keep the original PDF as audit evidence; CSV is for analysis, not legal archival.

What happens when you use PDF to CSV

Upload one PDF (max 10MB, 20 pages) and click Extract Tables. We extract text from the PDF and detect table-like regions (aligned columns, pipes, or tabs), then output a single CSV suitable for Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet tool. Your file is deleted after you download the result. Best for text-based PDFs with clear table layout; scanned PDFs are not supported. Need to merge PDFs, split a PDF, or convert PDF to Word? Use our PDF merge, PDF split, and PDF to Word tools.

Half the time people need PDF to Word right after PDF to CSV—same workflow, different output.

Two writes worth bookmarking: tables that land cleanly in spreadsheets and when the “table” is still a scan.

If this isn’t the last stop, people often chain PDF to Plain Text then PDF to Word —same file, different headache.

When PDF to CSV is the right call

  • When you need to reuse table data from reports, invoices, or forms in a spreadsheet
  • When you want to analyze or edit PDF table content in Excel or Google Sheets
  • When the target workflow requires CSV or spreadsheet format
  • When you have text-based PDFs with clear column alignment or separators
  • When preparing data for import into databases or other tools

Formats

In: PDF only. Single file, max 10MB, 20 pages. Text-based PDFs (no scanned images).
Out: CSV (comma-separated values). Single file, spreadsheet-ready.

Uploads are processed for conversion only—we are not building a library of your documents.

When it goes sideways

  • Tables not detected or wrong layout: Works best with text-based PDFs that have clear column spacing. Scanned PDFs and borderless tables may not convert well.
  • Conversion fails or times out: Keep the file under 10MB and 20 pages. Ensure the PDF is not password-protected and contains selectable text.
  • File size or page limit: Each PDF can be up to 10MB and 20 pages. Split or reduce the document and try again.
