How to Convert PDF to Image — JPG, PNG, and More Free Online
Direct answer: Go to convertfloor.com/tools/pdf-to-jpg for JPG output, or convertfloor.com/tools/pdf-to-png for PNG output. Upload your PDF, click Convert, download your images. Each page becomes one image file.
Converting a PDF to images is useful for sharing individual pages on social media, inserting a PDF page into a presentation, building a website preview, or extracting diagrams and charts from a report. This guide covers every image format option and every device.
Which Image Format Should You Choose?
Format
Best For
File Size
Quality
JPG / JPEG
Photos, sharing, email, social media
Small
Good (slight loss at high compression)
PNG
Text-heavy, diagrams, screenshots
Larger
Perfect (lossless)
Rule of thumb: if your PDF contains mostly text, diagrams, or sharp-edged graphics, choose PNG — it preserves hard edges without compression artefacts. If your PDF contains photographs or you need the smallest possible file size, choose JPG.
PDF to JPG — Step by Step
Go to the converter. Open convertfloor.com/tools/pdf-to-jpg.
Upload your PDF. Click upload or drag and drop. Any PDF up to 100MB accepted.
Choose quality. High quality = larger file, sharper detail. Standard quality = smaller file, good for web and sharing.
Click Convert. Processing takes 5–15 seconds for most PDFs.
Download. Single-page PDFs: one JPG downloads directly. Multi-page PDFs: a ZIP file containing one JPG per page.
PDF to PNG — Step by Step
Go to the PNG converter. Open convertfloor.com/tools/pdf-to-png.
Upload your PDF. Same as above — any PDF up to 100MB.
Convert and download. PNG files are larger than JPG but retain lossless quality.
PNG is the better choice when text in the PDF needs to remain perfectly sharp at any zoom level, such as for embedding in presentations or print materials.
Multi-Page PDFs — One Image Per Page
When you convert a multi-page PDF, each page becomes a separate image file. These are packaged into a ZIP file for download. To open the ZIP:
Windows: right-click the ZIP → Extract All
Mac: double-click the ZIP — it extracts automatically
iPhone: tap the ZIP in Files — it extracts to the same folder
You will find one numbered image file per page (page_1.jpg, page_2.jpg, etc.).
How to Extract Just One Page as an Image
If you only need a specific page from a large PDF:
Option A: Convert the whole PDF and use only the page you need from the ZIP
Option B: Extract the page first using PDF Split (convertfloor.com/tools/pdf-split), then convert the single-page PDF to an image
Option B is faster if you have a very large PDF and need just one or two pages.
Use Cases for PDF to Image Conversion
Social Media
Social platforms do not display PDFs — only images. Convert a PDF slide or document page to JPG and upload it directly to Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, or Facebook.
Presentations
Insert a PDF diagram or chart into a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation by converting it to PNG first. PNG gives crisp edges at any slide size.
Website Thumbnails
Display a preview of a PDF report or whitepaper on a website. Convert the first page to JPG and use it as the cover image with a download link.
Extracting Diagrams
Pull charts, graphs, or diagrams from a PDF by converting the relevant page to an image and cropping in any image editor.
How to Convert PDF to Image on Mac — Preview Method
Open the PDF in Preview. Double-click to open.
Go to File → Export.
Choose format. Select JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or other formats from the Format dropdown.
Adjust quality. For JPEG, move the Quality slider. For PNG, no quality setting is needed.
Click Save. Preview exports the currently visible page. For all pages, select all thumbnails first (Cmd+A in the thumbnail sidebar), then export.
Preview exports one page at a time by default. To export all pages at once, select all page thumbnails (Cmd+A) before exporting.
