What this tool does

Upload one JPG, JPEG, or PNG (max 10 MB) and convert. Processing happens on our servers. Output is always image.webp. WebP is a modern format that is usually smaller than JPG or PNG at similar visual quality. PNG alpha is preserved. GIF, TIFF, BMP, SVG, PDF, and existing WebP files are not accepted. We do not store your file after processing.

Use a real JPG/JPEG or PNG. GIF, WebP, TIFF, BMP, SVG, and PDF are not converted on this tool.

  • When you want a free browser conversion with no account

Common problems and fixes

File type rejected

Use a real JPG/JPEG or PNG. GIF, WebP, TIFF, BMP, SVG, and PDF are not converted on this tool.

File too large or too many pixels

Keep the file at or under 10 MB, 8000 px on the longest side, and 12 million pixels total.

Older apps cannot open WebP

WebP is widely supported in current browsers. If a destination still requires JPG or PNG, use PNG to JPG or keep the original.

FAQ

Does this convert both JPG and PNG?

Yes. One tool accepts JPG/JPEG and PNG. There are no separate jpg-to-webp or png-to-webp pages.

Is conversion free?

Yes. Image to WebP is free to use with no registration required.

Is my file stored?

No. Files are processed securely and deleted immediately after processing.

What quality is used if I do not change the slider?

Default quality is 80. You can set any integer from 1 to 100.

Does this work on mobile?

Yes. The tool is fully responsive and works in mobile browsers.

Can I convert JPG to WebP?

Yes. Upload a JPG or JPEG (max 10 MB) and download image.webp. Quality defaults to 80 and can be set from 1 to 100.

Is there a separate JPG to WebP or PNG to WebP page?

No. Image to WebP is one converter for both JPG/JPEG and PNG. There are no extra URLs for each source format.

Does WebP keep PNG transparency?

Yes. Alpha from PNG input is kept. JPG has no alpha channel, so those conversions stay fully opaque.

What quality should I use?

Default is 80. Use 100 for maximum fidelity and lower values for smaller files. Valid range is 1–100.

Real-world use case

Useful when you need a smaller modern image for websites, CDNs, or apps that already accept WebP.

Manual vs tool

JPG to PNG keeps lossless pixels; WebP is the smaller shareable format when the destination supports it.

Practical tips

  • Start at quality 80, then lower only if you still need a smaller file.
  • Use PNG input when you need transparency in the WebP.

Limitations

Accepts one JPG/JPEG or PNG up to 10 MB. GIF, TIFF, BMP, SVG, and PDF are not converted.

Edge cases

  • Very simple graphics may not shrink as much as photos.
  • Older email clients may not display WebP.

JPG to WebP and PNG to WebP in one tool

Search for “image to webp”, “jpg to webp”, or “png to webp” and you land here. Photos from cameras and phones are usually JPG; graphics and screenshots with transparency are usually PNG. Both become a single WebP download. We do not flatten PNG alpha to a solid background. Quality 80 is a practical default for web delivery; raise it if you still see artifacts, or lower it if the file must shrink further.
